As a “Berliner” from Germany, I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degree in German, English, and educational studies from Humboldt University in Berlin. In my dissertation study at Georgetown University, I have researched how learners of German construe evaluative meanings in the digital storytelling medium in order to express emotions and position themselves.

My research interests include but are not limited to L2 digital writing, discourse analysis, storytelling, foreign language pedagogy, and curriculum design. I have presented my research at different conferences (e.g., ACTFL, ISLE, PAC), have published journal articles in Unterrichtspraxis. Teaching German.  In collaborative, interdisciplinary projects related to teaching German and Foreign Languages, I have enjoyed connecting Foreign Language pedagogy with other disciplines such as Environmental Justice and Digital Humanities.

Throughout my teaching career, I have instructed German at the collegiate level in the United States as well as at the K-12 level in Berlin, Germany. Over the past few summers, I have worked with gifted high school students at the residential Georgia Governor’s Honors Program. What I enjoy most about my academic profession is that I get to fully immerse students at various levels in the German language, literature, and culture.

Here at the College of Charleston, I am teaching German 101 and 201 in the Fall 2022 as well as German 102 and an upper-level German course in the Spring 2023.
