Global Scholars

Launched in Fall 2009, the Global Scholars program is a university-wide initiative designed to increase the capacity of students and faculty to contribute productively as global citizens. The program aims to help meet the changing demands brought about by globalization and recognize students and faculty members who structure their learning and work around developing a wider global world-view.

Requirements for Student Global Scholars (GS) include:

    •    3.0 grade point average
    •    Academic coursework with international/global theme (18 hours)
    •    Demonstrated foreign language proficiency
    •    Overseas learning experience
    •    Documented attendance at international events
    •    Participation in mentorship program

To date, five faculty members in the Department of German and Slavic Studies are qualified to serve as mentors in the Global Scholars program:

    •    Dr. Thomas Baginski
    •    Prof. Stephen Della Lana
    •    Dr. Morgan Koerner
    •    Prof. Meglena Miltcheva
    •    Dr. Nancy Nenno

Two students of German have already graduated with the Global Scholars designation:

    •    Sarah Morris '10  (History Major, German Minor)
    •    Travis Lee O'Dell '10 (Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology Major, German Minor)
