Goethe Institut Proficiency Exams

The School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs requires that language majors take a proficiency exam prior to graduation.  The cost will be covered for one exam for a major by the Dean of the School.

The College of Charleston is the only institution of higher education in South Carolina to be accredited to administer the internationally-recognized German language proficiency exams offered through the Goethe-Institut.

Each fall and spring, the B1 (equivalent to the old Zertifikat Deutsch) and the C1 (equivalent of the former Zertifikat Mittelstufenprüfung) are offered to students at the College and to those working at German-owned businesses in South Carolina and the surrounding area. Every two years, we offer the ZDfB (Zertifikat Deutsch für den Beruf), which is specifically targeted towards those in the business world.

For further information on the examinations, visit the Goethe Institut here.

The next B1/C1 exam date is on Saturday, February 26th, 2022.
